How to Setup USB for VirtualBox (USB device not found solution)

If you don’t find your USB devices in VirtualBox “Add Filter From Device” menu, then read this post.

Two methods are given below to solve the problem. Follow any of those.

CLI Method (Tested)

Add your username to “vboxusers” group by running the following command in Terminal:

sudo usermod -G vboxusers -a $USER

Then Log Out and re-login.

GUI Method

Install “Users and Groups” app running following command:

sudo apt-get install gnome-system-tools

After install open the app and do as follows:

add to vboxusers

  1. Select your username and click “Manage Groups“.
  2. Select “vboxusers“.
  3. Click “Properties“.
  4. Check your username from Group Members list.
  5. Click OK.

Then Log Out and back in.
